Your answers to below questions will indicate if your Child is at risk for learning difficulties and needs intervention.
1. Does your child have difficulties in recognizing letters or numbers?
2. Does your child have difficulties associating letters with their respective sounds?
3. Does your child have difficulties in recognizing three letter words?
4. Does your child have difficulties pronouncing some sounds or words?
5. Does your child have difficulties in holding small objects?
6. Does your child have difficulties relating to abstract concepts like before/after left/right?
7. Does your child have difficulties in copying patterns ( eg Square/Circles)?
8. Does your child have difficulties in following simple instructions?
If your answer is yes to even one of the first 3 items, then your child needs intervention in phonics and pre reading skills so that his transition to the grades that require him to read fluently is easier and smoother.
If your answer is yes to 2 out of the remaining 5 items then your child needs intervention in comprehending skills. Comprehending skills are those that lay the groundwork for the child to read and understand concepts and also lay the foundation of numerical skills.
